OBJECTIVES

The aim of this webinar is to familiarize first contact officials and law enforcement bodies with the procedural aspects, we well as their tasks and duties in relation to the identification of potential applicants for international protection, and the lodging of an asylum application. By the end of this webinar, the audience will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of the right to asylum and the principle of non-refoulement;
  • Describe the notion of international protection deriving from the EU acquis;
  • Explain the main stages of the asylum process and define your role within this process;
  • Explain the notion of vulnerability and recognize indicators
  • Understand the minimum procedural guarantees for vulnerable applicants, in particular at the initial stage of the asylum procedure
  • Communicate effectively with applicants for international protection, and, in particular, with persons with special needs

TARGET GROUP

The target group are first contact officials and law enforcement bodies who might be in contact with potential asylum seekers or persons willing to make an application for international protection, as well as authorities in charge of the lodging of an asylum application (including identification and fingerprinting). The targe group includes officials performing these duties in the framework of a national asylum system, or in an operational setting, such as border areas, disembarkations, transit zones, hotspots.
