OBJECTIVES

The aim of this webinar is to raise awareness of the EUAM Ukraine and the EMPACT FIA OAP in their efforts to strengthen the capacity of Ukraine to prevent and combat the illegal trafficking of firearms.

By the end of this webinar, the audience will be able to:

  • explain how EMPACT FIA OAP, through its relevant OAs 8.4 and 8.5, contributes to the strengthening of Ukraine's capacity to prevent and combat illicit trafficking of firearms in line with the EU List of Actions on Firearms, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) trafficking in the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine;
  • outline the lessons learned from illicit firearms trafficking from past conflict zones; the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina and how these lessons could be used to better address the situation in Ukraine;
  • list the activities of EUAM Ukraine in accordance with its mandate to support the Ukrainian authorities in preventing and combating all forms of smuggling and trafficking of SALW;
  • describe the role and capabilities of the Regional Intelligence Liaison Office for Eastern and Central Europe (RILO ECE) in the prevention of and the fight against the illegal trafficking of firearms from Ukraine to Europe.

  • Law enforcement officials of the EU MS, staff and/or future staff of relevant EU services and existing EU civilian CSDP missions, engaged in deployment, training, policy development, decision-making in the context of civilian CSDP Missions.
  • Law enforcement and customs officials from EU Member States, Western Balkans, Eastern Partnership (EaP) Countries detecting and investigating illicit firearms and ammunition trafficking.
  • Staff members of JHA Agencies Network, and OLAF handling cases on illicit firearms and ammunition trafficking.
